I was in the Local Tampa Whole Foods pondering the selection of Gluten Free Pasta's when I struck up a conversation with this woman about the best and worst Gluten Free Breads. My complaint from the beginning of my Gluten Free journey is the taste of the products. Why do we have to sacrifice taste?
So as we were discussing the complexities of the Gluten Free World, she recommended the brand Against the Grain. I was a bit apprehensive about this brand due to the price of the baguettes which was about $8.50 for two. After hemming and haughing over the price I decided to purchase the baguettes and I have been hooked ever since! I LOVE LOVE LOVE this bread. Against the Grain makes breads and bread products that are naturally Gluten Free. They make baguettes, rolls, bagels, pizza shells and pizzas. One of the best the texture of this bread, it reminds me of a popover (which I love).
Now to my rant. I live in Tampa Florida and Against the Grain products are carried in two grocery Stores. One is at Whole Foods and the other is at Abbey's Health & Nutrition. I have gone to Whole Foods and they have recently changed their Gluten Free Section and low and behold they have stopped stocking the Against the Grain baguettes! I go that store for a few select products and it is on the other side of town and I am getting beyond upset when I get there and there is no bread. I know some of you would be like "Oh Amanda, Just call or Amanda is it really that bad?" YES YES It is!!!
I think what I am most aggravated is the lack of knowledge about the products and the seriousness of needing Good Gluten Free products. When I ask about Against the Grain I get a blank stare and the "It should be right there" or "We can special order it" Seriously? Are you going to special order for one package of baguettes?
This time I got the Freezer Manager is not in, let me have your number and they will call you. That was Sunday so we shall see.
So next time I need this bread, I will end up going to Abbey's health and Nutrition first and if they have it, bye bye to Whole Foods! Bottom Line You have to try this bread!
