On the hunt for another Gluten Free product that can replace my cookie habit. I really like cookies and since the holidays are around, I am finding I am thinking about them much more than I normally do. So when I was out and about I found these Cherrybrook Kitchen Gluten Free Dreams Chocolate Chip Mini Cookies and thought I would try them out. A serving size is 6 cookies with 120 cals and 4g of Fat. So all in all there not THAT bad for you! It is a good replacement for your cookie habit however it doesn't mean I would run out and buy these things every time I wanted a cookie. At $3.05 a box it can get a bit pricey which is still less expensive than the suggested retail price on the Cherrybook Kitchen website.
This really isn't a review but more of a rant on why Gluten Free Products do not taste good or natural as they claim to be. These cookies leave a grainy mouth feel after eating them. I am assuming it is because they are made with white rice flower. This weekend I am going to make Gluten Free Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies and play around to see if I an get the texture of the cookie to be nice and soft or even a chewy cookie like my beloved Calypso Cookies found at Publix Market. They are not gluten free (Insert Sad Face).
I think I am fortunate that my Gluten irritants are not bad as some people however it is an irritant that I perhaps do not need in my life. Yes Gluten Free Foods are more expensive than regular foods and I am finding that Advertisement Executives are slapping the GF Label on foods that are already naturally Gluten Free in order to jack the prices up. I saw the other day at a Mom and Pop Health food Store where a can of pumpkin had the GF label and it was almost $3 a can! Here is a few links that can show you what foods naturally are Gluten Free. Though I do not have Celiac Disease, their website has loads of helpful information regarding Gluten Free Foods.
My battle continues to find good Gluten Free Foods and I must continue with little help from Gluten Free Dreams Chocolate Chip Mini Cookies. I about fell out of my chair this morning when I came across this quote on their website
".... We've now tried the chocolate chip cookies and sugar cookies. They are delicious as well. Absolutely top notch." - Debbie in CT
Well Debbie in CT I don't know if your taste buds have been destroyed by the chemicals in your food but these cookies were far from delicious! At best they were fair and editable when dunked in coffee. C+
