So my week of "no meat" has finished and it was not as hard to find supplements to replace the meat. What was hard was cooking for another person who isn't going to forgo the meat for a week. In that respects, I found it difficult. He did eat my wild rice mix and my chickenless chicken beasts but I could tell his humour was wearing thin when it came to the Meat Free BBQ Pulled Shreds. He said the flavor was off and the texture was not very pleasing and I would have to agree with that. Even with telling myself, this is the greater good you can eat this. I couldn't even keep it down.
I think I was fooled by the design of this package. Having a degree in Digital Communication, I am drawn to packages, advertisements, paper ect. Gardein did an excellent job in their packaging. The package is minimal and very shiny. The pulled Shreds actually look like pulled pork; however, when you cook it as the directions indicate (the microwave) its more like bits of spongy soy thingies. Not very appetizing.
I will say though that the sauce was the best part of the BBQ Pulled Shreds. It was sweet and just a bit of spiciness to them. The BBQ Sauce had the consistency of any thick sauce in the grocery stores. They really did a great job with this sauce. If I was them I would have bottled this up and sold it as a stand a lone.
When reviewing their website, I was drawn into the packaging of the other products they produced such as the Chick'n Scallopini. They look really good but now I am worried that it will be like this BBQ Pulled Shreds. When I go on my Next trip to the store I will try the Chick'n Scallopini or the Seven Grain Crispy Tenders to insure I just didn't like this particular product. Wish me luck I am gonna need it! PS I lost about two lbs that week without meat so I guess it helped.
